P. Plautius Hypsaeus, 57 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.85 g, 5 h), Rome. P•VPSAE / S•C Draped bust of Leuconoë to right; behind, small dolphin swimming right. Rev. C•VPSAE•COS / CEPIT / PRIV Jupiter in quadriga to left, holding reins in his left hand and hurling thunderbolt with his right. Babelon (Plautia) 12. Crawford 420/2a. RBW 1515. Sydenham 911. Darkly toned. Some scratches and with a small test cut on the edge, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), privately acquired from Dorotheum in November 1945.
